NSRI Melkbosstrand crews pulled a seriously injured man from a boat at Melkbosstrand on Saturday morning and airlifted him to a Cape Town trauma centre, reports Cape {town} Etc.
At about 10:25am the NSRI duty crew set out after eyewitnesses reported a small ‘pencil duck’ boat in trouble between Melkbosstrand and van Riebeeckstrand.
The two people on board, a man (57) from Paarl and a woman (51) from Durbanville, managed to reach the shore with their boat.
Emergency teams found the man with serious injuries but the woman was not injured.

NSRI medics began treatment on the beach as the City of Cape Town lifeguards, community medics and Netcare 911 paramedics arrived.
Because the location was too far down the beach for an ambulance, rescuers secured the injured man to a stretcher and moved him, on his boat and trailer, back to the NSRI rescue base.
Netcare 911 then airlifted him by helicopter to hospital in a serious but stable condition. Local emergency footage shared by Community Medics confirms the helicopter response.
The pair were training for the Trans Agulhas Challenge when waves threw them from the vessel.
The NSRI thanked all responders and asked the public to support the injured man and his family during his recovery.
