‘The festival started about 15 years ago when the valley wanted to get together to celebrate the end of the wine harvest and the beginning of the olive harvest,’ says Abigail Bezuidenhout, social media manager for the Worcester Wine and Olive Route. ‘We focus on families, as families are the core to society.’ The festival not only caters to adults, but also children – offering several activities for them. ‘(These activities) give the parents an opportunity to just relax and enjoy the true hospitality and whimsicalness of the valley.’
Situated 13km outside Worcester on the R60 (toward Robertson), the Nuy Valley Festival is regarded as one of the most scenic hidden areas in the Western Cape. Hosted by Nuy Winery at Nuy on the Hill, Willow Creek Olive Estate, Leipzig Country House and Winery and Lions Creek Olive Estate, visitors can experience the exceptional by taking a tractor-wagon ride through the vineyards and olive groves between venues.
The event also featured live music, including appearances by Akimbo – a music duo from Stellenbosch, Hugo Veldsman, Ruan Theron, Andre Combrink, and Rio Bezuidenhout.
In addition to tasting some exceptional locally made wines, those looking for some adventure could also participate in a trail run and MTB. The route meanders through the farms that form part of the festival, while the longer distances offer some spectacular views.
