Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut stated that the deceased ranged in age from 18 to 21.
The deceased were Akhona Nondudule (19), Wanda Zitumane (18) and Babalo Mlonyeni (21).
‘An initial investigation has revealed that four armed men approached the eight victims at around 1:15pm at the barbershop, where two were shot and killed on the scene.’
‘Six men were admitted to hospital, and upon arrival, a third male succumbed to death due to the extent of his injuries,’ said Traut.

According to the authorities, ‘there is cause to assume that the event was triggered by revenge.’
Traut stated that they are looking for four people thought to be involved in the shootings.
‘As our investigation unfolds, the modus operandi will be determined in a bid to get to the bottom of the multiple murders and attempted murders,’ said Traut.
While police are in pursuit of the gunmen, Nyanga community police forum (CPF) secretary Dumisani Qwebe told News24 that the community was left ‘shaken and screaming’ in shock at the ‘volley’ of ‘loud’ shots being fired.
Qwebe said that the community had reason to believe that the motive for the shooting was extortion-related, adding that the increase in extortion, specifically in township areas, was getting out of hand.

As a result, the CPF has once again urged the community to come together to assist the police in finding those guilty for the killings.
‘Enough is enough; we cannot allow criminals to use our area to act out their thuggery. These are people’s lives we are dealing with; it cannot be allowed that people are being killed in such cruel ways on a regular basis,’ said Qwebe.
Police are investigating murder and attempted murder charges. Anyone with information on the incident can call Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.
