Shock has gripped Beaufort West after the body of a 23-year-old police constable was discovered at a local hangout over the weekend.
Authorities confirmed that the young officer, who was off-duty at the time, was found with a fatal stab wound in the early hours of Sunday morning, as per Smile FM. His body was located at an entertainment venue on Gaba Road, Kwa-Mandlenkosi.
Sergeant Christopher Spies said police responded to a call at around 12:20am, where they identified the victim as a constable attached to the Beaufort West police station. Paramedics later declared him dead at the scene.
The discovery prompted a swift and heavy police response. Units including the K9 team and Crime Intelligence were immediately activated, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, aged 15 and 20.
The pair is expected to appear in court once formal charges are laid. Investigators have since confirmed that the murder docket has been handed to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI).
