We think the most beautiful women in the world come from South Africa and now it’s official. Last night Rolene Strauss walked away with the Miss World award, beating 120 other contestants. A 22-year old medical student at the University of Free State, Rolene showed the world that Saffa girls not only have beauty, but brains too. This is the third time that a South African has won the competition, with Miss Hungary coming in second place and Miss USA third. Well done Rolene!

Moving a little closer to home, famed Dutch pop group The Vengaboys are back in town. Well not really as this was their first visit here, but they did give Cape Town a seemingly fantastic performance last night according to Twitter. Even reports of a mass sokkie happening at the front of the seating area surfaced too. Scary, but who would have expected anything less?

The Adderley Street lights have been switched on, bringing productivity levels to a dangerous low as the city slips even more into holiday mode. Thousands of Capetonians gathered last night as Mayor Patricia de Lille had the honour of illuminating Adderley Street with the festive glow.
