Three people, two surviving and one deceased, have been recovered from the sea between Oudekraal and Mouille Point.

NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon has confirmed that during the ongoing search for 9 people suspected to be missing following an inflatable raft capsizing this morning, two men have been rescued.

“Those two men were recovered into the Airforce helicopter and they have been airlifted to the landing zone that has been established at Clifton,” he said.

“Both men are being attended to for severe hypothermia.”

Following the rescue, the body of a man who is believed to be one of those from the capsized vessel was recovered. The body was brought to the NSRI base in Bakoven where the man was declared deceased. The SAPS then took over, taking the body into the care of the forensic pathology services.

“Our condolences are conveyed to the family of the deceased man,” said Lambinon.

The search operation continues for the a suspected five to six remaining people. The search includes a sea search, a shore-line search for those who may have washed ashore as well as contacting family members in case any of the people have returned home. Family members who are related to the incident are also being asked to come forward with any information.
