If you have ever thought about moving to Australia, you are in luck because it has just gotten easier: Down Under has opened 117 job postings for foreigners who want to work and live in the country’s Northern Territory.

The Australian Government launched the second phase of the Designation Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) at the start of this year to address the shortage of occupations and population numbers in the Northern Territory and the Warrnambool regions of the nation.

DAMA II offers foreigners a path towards permanent residency in Australia under the condition that they work in the region for at least three years.

Applicants will have to undergo several tests, including an English aptitude exam, and must posses the necessary qualifications for the job before they can be considered for available positions.

The Northern Territory Chief Minister, Michale Gunner, is hopeful that migrant workers will choose to remain in the region even after the three-year period so that the area will have more skilled and consistent workers, according to a release issued by the Northern Territory government.

A Community Survey conducted by StatsSA in 2016 recorded that an estimated 178 700 South Africans were living in Australia.

Gunner hopes that the DAMA II will positively affect the country.

“More people means more jobs and a stronger economy, which means better schools, better hospitals and more police,” he says.
