Update: 09 January, 1pm
With flames advancing dangerously in both directions, the Overstrand Municipal Manager, Dean O’Neill, has assured the public that emergency services are working tirelessly to contain the blaze.
The left flank of the fire is advancing towards Die Kop Informal Settlement, raising alarms for the residential community. Simultaneously, the right flank, fanned by the wind, is heading towards the R326, potentially threatening vital transport routes and further properties.
As fire crews intensify their efforts on the ground, aerial support is also underway. The Black Hawk helicopter has been deployed as part of the firefighting operations, effectively aiding in the suppression of the raging flames from above.
‘It is all hands on deck,’ O’Neill stated, urging residents of Die Kop to remain alert and be prepared for a possible evacuation should conditions deteriorate.
In light of the situation, loud hailing is currently being conducted in Die Kop to ensure that everyone is informed of the unfolding crisis.
For those who wish to take precautionary measures, the Stanford Community Hall, located on Bezuidenhout Street, is open as a temporary evacuation centre.
As the fire continues to spread, authorities have advised that road closures are expected. Visitors currently in the area are encouraged to start packing up and consider their options; the rapidly changing conditions alarmingly indicate the wind might carry the fire across the R43.
O’Neill noted that the Stanford road may be shut down this afternoon in an effort to maintain safety for both residents and emergency response teams.
Overstrand: Wildfires sweep Pearly Beach and Stanford communities
Overstrand Municipality declared a Code Red on 8 January as two fast-moving fires burned through Pearly Beach and Stanford. Emergency crews remain on scene and the situation is still active, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Fire teams from Overstrand Fire and Rescue were joined by neighbours and specialised units. Crews include Working on Fire, GoFPA, CapeNature, Kishugu aerial resources and multiple district and municipal teams. Ground and aerial resources continue containment work on steep and inaccessible terrain.

At Pearly Beach the fire has spread rapidly since 4 January. Officials estimate about 15 292 hectares have burned and Division D is burning with high intensity across farmland toward Elim. Several fire lines remain active.
Roads and power are affected. The R43 between Stanford and Gansbaai is open, while stop-and-go controls and intermittent closures affect Pearly Beach Main Road and gravel roads.
