The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Simon’s Town duty crew was alerted to reports of a body located adrift in the vicinity of Roman Rock Lighthouse off-shore of Simon’s Town Harbour on Friday, 24 February 2023.

A paddler happened upon the body and raised the alarm, prompting the immediate activation of the NSRI Simon’s Town rescue team, the SA Police services and the Police Dive Unit.
A man’s body was found and taken to the rescue station. It was then given to the Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
The police and Forensic Pathology Services are providing support to the family of the 40-year-old fisherman who went missing in Strand on Monday, 20 February 2023, to make arrangements for formal identification, as it is suspected that the recovered body belongs to the fisherman.
