The last 18 months have felt like we’ve been walking around with a grey cloud above our heads. The pandemic has not been too kind to us, so you’d be forgiven for thinking that Pantone’s latest “colour of the year” was grey.
Not a chance, said Pantone as they unveiled 2022’s colour of the year – ‘Veri Peri.’ Ushering us into a bright and hopeful future, Pantone described the hue as offering us a chance to explore our carefree confidence and daring curiosity that stirs our creative, inquisitive and intriguing spirit.
“Very Peri helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives,” Pantone wrote on Instagram.
This is a first for the company as this new colour embraces qualities of blues with a few violet-red undertones.
“The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that colour can hope to answer,” Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, indicated.
It also reflects the global innovation and transformation that is currently gripping our society.
“As society continues to recognise colour as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red-violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us,” Laurie says.
The last 23 years have seen Pantone’s Colour of the Year influence industries, including fashion, marketing, graphic design and interior design.
