The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has announced that parents who applied for placements in Grade R, 1 or 8 for the upcoming 2026 school year can begin to see the outcomes of their applications as of today, reports Cape {town} Etc.
This significant milestone marks the commencement of a crucial phase in the admissions process, ensuring that families are informed of their child’s educational journey.
For parents who received successful offers, it is imperative to act promptly by either accepting or declining these offers before the deadline of 17 June 2025.
WCED spokesperson Kerry Mauchline has highlighted the importance of making these decisions quickly, especially for those who may receive multiple offers. ‘These parents are essentially ‘double parking’ on the system, which prevents schools from offering these places to other applicants until they make their choice,’ Mauchline explained.
Should a parent fail to confirm their choice by 17 June 2025, the system will take action by automatically confirming their top-ranked choice of school that has made an offer.
Consequently, all other offers will be rescinded, allowing schools to extend these openings to other applicants. ‘We want to ensure that every learner whose parents applied on time is placed as quickly as possible,’ Mauchline reassured, acknowledging the stress that often accompanies the admissions period.
Moreover, parents need not feel discouraged if an offer is not received by the initial deadline of 30 May 2025. According to Mauchline, many more offers can be made as families confirm their choices and vacate spots.
This means that even if parents do not secure a placement right away, there remains a hopeful prospect as spaces free up.
Parents can view the outcomes of their applications via the WCED’s online admissions system at WCED Learner Admissions.
