Advocate Nikiwe Nyathi is representing the accused arsonist. The defence requested more time to prepare for the trial citing, “The number of documents that we have received on the flash disc require a laptop. We have had issues with consulting with our client due to those constraints. We have been assured that we will be able to consult,” according to EWN.
Both the prosecution and defence are suggesting Mafe undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Mafe’s former representative Luvuyo Godla earlier told the court the accused had been on hunger strike requesting a television to watch the news.
Mafe also requested an electric jug to heat up water for bathing and also make coffee.
Representing the State, advocate Mervyn Menigo said he is ready to proceed with the trial.
Judge Dolamo set Mafe’s next court appearance to 27 January 2023.
