Residents can expect their electricity supply to be interrupted on Sunday, 21 August 2022. However, in the case of bad weather conditions, which may delay the work on 21 August 2022, the power supply interruption will take place on Sunday, 28 August 2022 instead.
According to the City, this is due to Eskom planning to carry out major substation refurbishment work on their electricity network. Additionally, maintenance and upgrade work is necessary to improve the reliability and security of the electricity supply.
The affected areas should plan around the following time, as the interruption will take place from 07.30 am to 17.30 pm. The City urges residents to be cautious, as the supply could be restored at any time and residents must treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the interruption.
Furthermore, residents are advised to switch off geysers and disconnect sensitive electronic equipment to prevent damage from possible power surges when the supply is restored.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Councillor Beverley van Reenen, stated apologetically: “The City apologises for any inconvenience caused. We thank residents for their cooperation and understanding.”
Residents can contact the Electricity Department’s all hours Technical Operations Centre on 0860 103 089 for more information or any enquiries regarding the planned electricity supply interruption. Affected areas can be viewed on the City’s website.
