Dramatic pictures of a fire that broke out at Cape Point shows the extent to which firefighters risk their lives every day trying to save precious fynbos and nearby property.

The fire broke out at the Cape Point Nature Reserve on Thursday afternoon, leading emergency services to evacuate people in the Olifantsbos area.

Working on Fire tweeted a warning to steer clear of the area. “A WOF chopper and WOF firefighters assisting at a fire that broke out along Link Road Cape Point. Please stay clear of the area.”

The pictures, taken by photographer Justin Sullivan, show firefighters face to face with a wall of fire. It is not known at this stage how extensive the damage from the fire is.
