The Cape Town Marathon is an annual prestigious city race that takes runners along a spectacular 42.2km route of the Mother City. Open to a range of runners, from elite athletes to recreational runners, the marathon traverses the peninsula, taking in the sights of Cape Town’s picturesque views.

The route is wheelchair-friendly, and has a 6 hour 30 minute cut-off time. The event is a fun-filled experience, that allows participants to explore on of South Africa’s most beautiful and popular destinations.

This morning, Kenya’s Edwin Koech won men’s marathon, with a time of 2:09.20. In near perfect conditions for the fifth successive year, Koech was too strong for a stellar field that included Daniel Muteti, Mohamed Ziani and South Africa’s Elroy Galant, breaking away in the final kilometre. Koech defeated Muteti who was the official pace maker by 5 seconds.
