A devastating fire that broke out in the informal settlement of Silver Town, Khayelitsha has left a total of 1 355 people displaced. The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has confirmed that 342 homes were destroyed in the blaze, and its Informal Settlements Department is in the process of issuing kits to the affected residents. This will help them rebuild their lives and homes.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning, and it is reported that the death toll sits at one person.

The South African Social Services Agency has also been called on to provide humanitarian assistance.
