The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has announced a series of planned maintenance operations that will temporarily disrupt water supply across several suburbs next week, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The work, which includes pipe repairs, valve installations, and system testing, is part of ongoing efforts to improve the city’s water infrastructure.

According to the City of Cape Town, the disruptions are necessary to ensure long-term water supply reliability. Residents in affected areas, including Weltevreden Valley, Khayelitsha, Kraaifontein, and Welgelegen, are advised to store water in clean, sealed containers as a precaution.

Key areas:

  • Weltevreden Valley: A test shut-off will occur on Tuesday, 5 August (09:00–13:00), followed by a full shutdown on Thursday, 7 August (09:00–18:00) for new pipeline connections.

  • Khayelitsha (Kuyasa, Harare, Litha Park, Ndlovini): Supply will be interrupted from 20:00 on 6 August to 04:00 on 7 August for valve assessments.

  • Wemmershoek Water Treatment Plant: Shutdown scheduled for 6 August (08:00–12:00), affecting Kraaifontein, Bloekombos, and Wallacedene.

  • Welgelegen & Panorama: No water from 09:00–18:00 on 7 August due to valve repairs.

Additionally, zero-pressure tests will be conducted in Bellville South, Vredekloof, and Belmont Park between 5–7 August, potentially causing low pressure or outages.

The maintenance forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy, aimed at reducing pipe bursts and water losses.

For those outside the affected zones, water conservation during this period is encouraged to ease pressure on the system.
