Residents in several Cape Town areas are urged to prepare for upcoming water supply disruptions as the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate embarks on essential maintenance work from 15 to 20 September 2025, reports Cape {town} Etc.
This planned infrastructure maintenance is vital for ensuring a reliable and efficient water supply to communities.
The maintenance work includes critical pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements aimed at enhancing the overall integrity of the city’s water distribution system.
The directorate advises all residents in the impacted zones to store adequate amounts of water in clean, sealed containers prior to the scheduled outages, as while not everyone may experience complete water loss, disruptions are likely.
Among the significant interruptions, the shutdown of the Voëlvlei Water Treatment Plant will commence at 08:00 on Monday, 15 September, lasting until 16:00 on Saturday, 20 September.
This shutdown allows maintenance crews to conduct thorough work on the treatment facility. Local reservoirs will be replenished in advance, and residents in Durbanville, Philadelphia, Fisantekraal, and Klipheuwel are specifically advised to conserve water during this timeframe.

On the same day, from 08:00 to midnight, the Faure Water Treatment Plant will also be shut down for necessary maintenance as teams work to safely remove a temporary blank plate installed during previous maintenance activities. This shutdown is expected to affect water supply to nearby businesses, including the Cape Town Film Studio and various companies along Baden Powell Drive.
Additional closures will occur in specific regions on 16 September. For instance:
- Eureka Estate, Elsies River: Water supply will be cut off from 09:00 to 18:00 for a connection to the water main. A water tanker will roam the area to provide residents with necessary water.
- Wynberg East: Residents will experience lower water pressure from 09:00 to 16:00 while teams replace a connecting piece on the Pressure Reducing Valve.
- Wetton: An area along Wetton Road will have no water from 08:00 to 17:00, due to concurrent roadworks.
- Rylands: The City has engaged a contractor for a pipe replacement project in Mabel Road and Middel Road, which may cause intermittent disruptions until December. Temporary water shut-offs will occur on 18 September from 09:00 to 18:00.
Moreover, a series of tests, including zero-pressure tests, will take place on 16 September from 10:00 to 16:00 in Lot 3 Bellville, which may also lead to water pressure issues or supply disruptions.
