The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has advised that various parts of the Mother City will experience water supply disruptions starting next week as the team conducts planned work on its water supply infrastructure.
The following areas will be affected:
Maintenance work: pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Waterstone Mall and Schoonenberg Estate – Somerset West
Monday, 3 November, from 10pm until completion
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to Waterstone Mall and Schoonenberg Estate, and possibly the immediate surrounds, to safely replace a faulty 300mm diameter valve on the water main that supplies these areas.
‘Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to minimise the disruption.’ These areas will experience no water during this period.
Part of Rylands
Tuesday, 4 November, from 9am to 6pm
Wednesday, 5 November, from 9am to 6pm
A City-appointed contractor, Carp Civils, will conduct a pipe replacement project in Mabel Road and Middel Road, Rylands until 12 December. This may result in brief intermittent flow disruptions and some construction noise.
As part of the project, water supply will be shut off temporarily to enable connections from the temporary bypass to the newly installed pipeline and the replacement of valves in Middel Road and College Road.

Golden Acre, Land En Zeezicht, Nature Valley and Morningside – Somerset West
Wednesday, 5 November, from 10am to 6pm
Water will be shut off to install a bulk water meter on the supply main to these areas. The City notes that these areas ‘will experience no water during this period.’
Part of Woodstock
Wednesday, 5 November, from 9am to 6pm
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply from Hyde Street to Sir Lowry Road, between Searle Street and Russel Street, including Chapel Street, Gray Street, St. Phillips Street, Frances Street, Pontac Street, and Nelson Street.
The work involves installing a bypass connection to accommodate road upgrades in the area.
Part of Wynberg
Wednesday, 5 November, from 8am to 6pm
The water supply will be temporarily shut off in parts of Wynberg to connect a newly installed water pipeline along Cogill Road and Egglestone Road to the existing water supply infrastructure.
Affected areas include Cogill Road, Egglestone Road, Benjamin Road, Wellington Road, and the immediate surrounds.
Table View, West Beach, Parklands, Flamingo Vlei, Blouberg Rise, Bloubergrant, Sunridge and West Riding
Thursday, 6 November, from 9pm until Friday, 7 November, 5am
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to these areas to install a valve and bulk water meter on the supply main.
‘Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to minimise the disruption,’ the city highlighted.
Part of Fish Hoek
Thursday, 6 November, from 8:30am to 6:30pm
The City will temporarily shut off the water supply to parts of Fish Hoek as part of an ongoing pipe replacement project. The work involves installing a control valve at the intersection of Berg Road and Pass Road.
The area affected by the shut-off is bounded by Kommetjie Main Road, Pass Road, Ranger Road, and Highway Road, and possibly the immediate surrounds.

Wednesday, 5 November, from 9am to 5pm: Vredekloof, Welgelee, Arauna, Morgenster, St Kilda, Marlborough Park, Brackenfell Industrial, and Okavango Park
These tests form part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy and involve the installation process for zone management infrastructure.
In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure while others may have no water during the testing period. Unfortunately, the City notes that it is not possible to predict which exact areas or streets will experience disruptions.
The City added that additional zone management investigations will be carried out to ensure the existing infrastructure operates effectively. Residents may experience pressure fluctuations during this time.
Residents are also advised that once the water supply is restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky due to trapped air in the pipes. The City assured residents that if the water is left to stand, ‘it will become clear again.’

Store enough water in clean, sealed containers ahead of the maintenance period.
