The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be undertaking planned maintenance work in selected areas, which will result in water supply disruptions, Cape {town} Etc reports.
In the Viben area, the water supply will be shut off from 9am until 4pm on Saturday, 9 November 2024. This water disruption will affect the entire Viben area, including Blackheath Industrial as well as the following streets: Silver, Kope, Chrome, Staal, Lood, Beatrix, Wessel Geldenhuys, Carel Marincowits, Goud Singel and Harbot Crescent. Residents of the are are advised to ensure their taps are properly closed during this time to minimise damage and water loss.
Furthermore, affected parties are advised to note the Steenbras Water Treatment Plant shutdown. This plant will temporarily shut down from Monday, 11 November 2024, until Wednesday, 13 November 2024, to enable the maintenance team to do routine maintenance. Residents have been urged to reduce their water consumption during this period.
The water supply to parts of Retreat will be shut off from 9am until 5pm on Tuesday, 12 November 2024, to enable the safe completion of construction work on the main water supply. The following streets will be impacted by the upcoming maintenance: Sasmeer Road, Scottsville Road, Loch Road, Pieterse Close, Domingo Road, Lensie Way, Toring Way, Velma Road, Leytonstone Road and surrounding areas. Residents are urged to ensure their taps are properly closed during this period to avoid water loss or damage.
In Sea Point, the water supply to St Johns, London Road, and adjacent streets will be temporarily shut off from 9am to 5pm on Tuesday, 12 November 2024, to facilitate the installation of a tee-piece and valve at the corner of Beach Road and London Road.
A second shut-off will occur from 9am to 5pm on Thursday, 14 November 2024, to allow teams to install a new valve at the corner of Beach Road and St Johns Road. Residents are once again urged to ensure their taps are properly closed during this period to avoid water loss or damage.
In the areas of Aurora, Durbanville Hills and Kenridge Heights, an emergency installation of 200 mm valves on the main feed from the Altydgedacht Reservoir will result in the water supply to be shut off from 9am until 7pm on Wednesday, 13 November 2024.
In Hout Bay, the water supply to areas on the bounded by Disa River Road to Park Avenue will be shut off from 9am on Wednesday, 20 November 2024, until 5pm on Thursday, 21 November 2024. This will allow for the safe installation of an air valve, fire hydrant and previously defective 250 mm isolation valves at the intersection of Bethal Street and Valley Road. Affected areas include: Hout Bay Main Road towards Ruyterplaats Drive including Riverside Terrace, Bethal Street, Welbevind Way, Martingale Avenue, Surcingle Avenue, Stirrup Lane, Victorskloof Road, Saddlers Close, Saddlers Row, Mangold Close, Valley Road, Blue Valley Close and surrounding streets.
On Wednesday, 13 November 2024, from 10am until 4pm in the areas of Blomtuin, Blommendal and La Rochelle, Zero-pressure tests and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take note of the work that will take place and prepare in advance. Preparation includes storing enough clean water in advance, in clean and sealed containers.
