The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has announced a carefully coordinated two-phase water shutdown affecting eight northern suburbs this week, in what officials describe as essential infrastructure improvements, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The planned maintenance will see water supply temporarily suspended in Table View, West Beach, Parklands, Flamingo Vlei, Blouberg Rise, Bloubergrant, Sunridge and West Riding during daylight hours on Wednesday and Thursday.
‘This isn’t an emergency response but a proactive upgrade to our water management system,’ explained via a post from City Councillor Sue van der Linde.
The operation includes installing a control valve and a water meter on the water supply main for the area, which are crucial components for future water distribution control.
The shutdown schedule is as follows:
- Phase 1 (Test): Wednesday, 19 November (10am-6pm)
- Phase 2 (Installation): Thursday, 20 November (10am-6pm)
Wednesday’s test run will help engineers ‘determine the impact for the actual shut-off’ the following day, ensuring minimal disruption during the main installation.
Meanwhile, residents in affected areas are advised to store adequate water for drinking and essential needs, keep taps closed during shutdown hours and expect possible air in pipes or water discolouration after restoration.
