The freedom of five suspects was short-lived after they committed a business robbery at a retail store in a shopping centre in Blue Downs on Thursday, 7 April.
According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the suspects between the ages of 21 and 32 years old were arrested following a high-speed chase that ended in an informal settlement in Mfuleni.
“Five firearms, an imitation firearm, cellular telephones, Wi-Fi routers and two vehicles were confiscated,” Twigg said.
Twigg indicated that once charged the suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates Court on charges of business robbery, possession of the stolen property, possession of an imitation firearm and possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, officers from the police’s Flying Squad received a tip-off of firearms at a house in Magongela Street, Bloekombos in Kraaifontein.
According to reports, when officers went to the mentioned address they arrested two suspects, a woman aged 36 and a 40-year-old man for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Officers also confiscated one 38 Special revolver, one 7.65 pistol, one 9mm pistol, and an assortment of ammunition. The suspects are due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates Court.
