Police have arrested a 42-year-old Zimbabwean man on Wednesday for selling unregistered medicine to fellow nationals in Khayelitsha, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The operation was part of the ongoing initiative known as Operation Shanela II, aimed at combating crime in the area.
According to police Constable Ndakhe Gwala, the operation kicked off after receiving credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities at a residence in Ilitha Park.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect in possession of a large quantity of unregulated medicine, hidden under a bed.
During interrogation, the suspect said that the illicit items were being sold to other Zimbabweans living in the area, raising concerns about the implications for public health and safety, Gwala said.
The suspect has been charged under the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1995 and is currently detained at Harare SAPS.
Following completion of the necessary legal processes, he will appear before the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court.
In a related effort to enhance community safety, police also conducted stop-and-search operations in Mitchells Plain, resulting in the arrest of two males, aged 20 and 22, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The duo was apprehended after being stopped during routine patrols.

Authorities recovered a 9mm pistol along with 15 rounds of ammunition, further indicating the need for heightened vigilance in the area.
Both suspects involved in the firearms incident are set to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court once they have been formally charged.
