The leader of the National Coloured Congress (NCC) and a Member of Parliament, Fadiel Adams, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon at his residence in the parliamentary village in Cape Town, Cape {town} Etc reports.
His arrest follows the issuance of a J50 warrant related to severe allegations of fraud and obstruction of justice, as part of an ongoing investigation into the murder of the late ANC Youth League leader, Sindiso Magaqa.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) escalated its search for Adams prior to his arrest, with the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) indicating that he is accused of interfering with crucial investigations, particularly involving convicted hitmen linked to the case.
This high-profile arrest has raised eyebrows across the country, not only due to Adams’s political standing but also because of the serious nature of the allegations at hand.
As media hordes captured the moment, Adams made a defiant statement to reporters, asserting, ‘Not intimidated. I’m not scared, and I’m coming,’
‘You and I are going to dance,’
When quizzed about the implications of a potential guilty verdict, Adams brashly expressed his disregard for political consequences, stating, ‘Forget the political implications, man. Can we focus on the criminal aspect, and can anybody tell me if there’s indeed a criminal aspect?’

He insisted that his attorney possesses evidence, including recordings and paperwork, that demonstrates his innocence concerning the charges raised against him.
Adams also reflected on concerns for his family, expressing that his children were distressed by the ordeal, yet he maintained his composure in the face of adversity.
He notably highlighted the connection between his current situation and his testimony to the Adhoc Committee regarding the activities within KwaZulu-Natal, mentioning General Khumalo, who was implicated in the budget sign-off for related operations.
The arrest warrant is linked to serious allegations involving fraud and the obstruction of justice during an ongoing investigation into the murder of the late ANC Youth League leader, Sindiso Magaqa.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) detailed that Adams is accused of having interfered with investigations at a crucial stage, specifically in connection with now-convicted hitmen.
Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement to locate Adams, including visits to multiple addresses associated with him, the police have reported a lack of engagement from his side.
Initially, arrangements were set for Adams to surrender at the Cape Town Central Police Station on Monday, 4 May 2026, but he did not appear, prompting concerns about his cooperation.
‘Despite numerous attempts to make contact with his legal representative, Adams has not made himself available to police,’ the SAPS stated, urging him to come forward without further delay.
The situation has intensified following Adams’ accusations against the police of intimidation and unlawful conduct. On Sunday, he alleged that around 15 officers executed an early morning raid at a property in Mitchells Plain that he previously occupied.
Claiming that these officers wore balaclavas and did not display identification, Adams accused them of harassing the occupants, which included a woman and her children.
He alleged that they failed to produce a search warrant during the operation and described the officers’ actions as resembling a ‘planned kidnapping,’

In a statement addressing the situation, Adams expressed his willingness to comply with law enforcement, noting, ‘I offered to comply three weeks ago in an email to KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, now-suspended national commissioner General Fannie Masemola, and Police Minister Firoz Cachalia.’
He continues, ‘I said to them, please do not send masked armed gunmen to my house. I don’t want my children traumatised.’
He argued that his family and the innocent occupants of his former residence were subjected to unnecessary trauma by the police’s actions.
Adams has indicated that action has since been taken on this matter in the Western Cape High Court, questioning the legitimacy of the warrant and police conduct in light of his ongoing fraud charges against the head of Crime Intelligence, Dumisani Khumalo.
‘Why now, when the South African Police Services find themselves before the court, do they put out a statement? Why did they try to hunt me down like a bank robber?’ he lamented.
‘We will see the Police Services in court tomorrow [Wednesday] morning,’
