Police in Cape Town are continuing their quest to confiscate illegal firearms in the City after three suspects over the weekend for being in the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut, a 30-year-old man was arrested during the early hours of Sunday morning after a 39-year-old man was shot and killed in Dove Road Parkwood the night before.
Traut indicated that members of the Anti-Gang Unit AGU were deployed in Parkwood for crime prevention duties when they spotted a suspicious male with a firearm on Blackbird Avenue.
“The 24-year-old suspect was pursued and arrested in possession of a 7.65 pistol and ammunition,” Traut said.
Traut went on to say that members of the AGU also reacted to intelligence during the early hours of Sunday morning and arrested a 41-year-old man at his residence in Conrad Avenue in Otteryafter they found a 9mm pistol and ammunition.
“Once charged, the three suspects are expected to make their court appearances in Wynberg to face the charges against them,” Traut added.
