In the early hours of Friday, a security guard was tragically shot and killed while responding to a panic alarm at a home in Princess Road, Bergvliet, Cape Town, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Western Cape police have since launched a manhunt for the gunman responsible.
The victim, a 54-year-old security officer employed by Pro-Sec Technologies, was dispatched to the scene after the homeowner, disturbed by a noise in the house, activated the panic alarm around 4:30am.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, the homeowner handed the guard the key to enter the property.
Once inside the home, a confrontation occurred between the guard and an unknown suspect, leading to gunshots being fired. The guard was declared dead at the scene, while the suspect fled, taking the guard’s firearm with him.
Police and forensic teams continued their investigation at the scene until late in the morning, searching for any clues that could lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect. The Kirstenhof police are currently handling the case, and authorities are appealing to the public for information.
