Cape Town police have had their hands busy as recent fatal shootings, including two separate incidents that occurred in Lavender Hill in one morning, are rocking the Cape Flats communities, reports Cape {town} Etc.
In the early hours of Monday morning, a 27-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded on the pavement in front of a premises in Grindle Avenue, Lavender Hill.
Steenberg police registered the murder case after police members on duty attended to the scene at around 7:30am.
‘On arrival, they found the deceased laying on the pavement with a gunshot wound to the head,’ said police spokesperson Captain F.C Van Wyk. ‘Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. He was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.’
The motive is believed to be gang-related.
Just over an hour earlier, a 20-year-old male was found shot and fatally wounded at the back of a premises in Eltister Road, Lavender Hill, at 6am.
‘On the members’ arrival, they found the body of a 20 year old male with two gunshot wounds to the chest,’ said Van Wyk. While this incident is also believed to be gang-related, Van Wyk added that Steenberg police are investigating the circumstances after he was declared deceased on the scene.
These incidents come after two teenagers were shot and killed, while another older male was injured, in two separate incidents across the Cape Flats last week Thursday, 8 May.
In the first incident, an 18-year-old male was found with gunshot wounds to his face in Mohan Crescent, Gatesville. According to the Athlone Community Policing Forum, while the shooting was deemed gang-related, it remains unclear whether the teen was the target of a premeditated hit or if he was caught in crossfire.
The other teen, a 17-year-old male, was found on the side of the road with fatal gunshot wounds on Rolbal Street, Beacon Valley, in Mitchell’s Plain.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the teen and a 35-year-old male were sitting on the pavement when they were approached by a Volkswagen Polo.
‘The occupants opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene,’ said Twigg.
The teen was declared dead on the scene, while the older man was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
