Two alleged extortionists were killed and another injured following a shootout with police on the N1 near Century City in Cape Town on Tuesday afternoon, Cape {town} Etc reports.

Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie, Western Cape police spokeswoman, said the third individual was brought to the hospital with critical gunshot wounds.
Pojie stated that the police received a tip regarding individuals allegedly extorting businesses and pursued a vehicle with three occupants.
‘Upon realising that police were following them, the suspects fired shots at the police. A shootout along the N1 near the Sable Road offramp ensued.’
According to Pojie, police returned fire.
‘Three firearms were seized from the vehicle after the shootout. Preliminary investigations indicate the vehicle the suspects were travelling in was hijacked in Thornton a few days ago.’
He confirmed that while no police officers were injured, an Investigations into attempted murder and inquest cases are under way.
Pojie also stated that investigations were underway to ascertain the identities of the deceased suspects.
‘Serious and Violent Crime Investigations of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit are probing attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, as well as possession of a hijacked vehicle charges. Meanwhile, IPID (Independent Police Investigative Unit) will investigate the inquest,’ he added.
