The owner of a cannabis shop was arrested over the course of the weekend, barely a week after he first opened for business in Sedgefield near Knysna in the Garden Route.

The 31-year-old owner advertised his business as a health and coffee shop, as well as a nursery, and was located in Sedgefield’s main road. Here he sold cannabis oil as well as edibles in the form of cakes and rusks.

The arrest was made just two hours after the owner opened the shop for the day on Saturday, and goods estimated to be valued at nearly R80 000 were confiscated, including various forms of packaged cannabis.

Speaking to IOL, Southern Cape police spokesperson Malcom Pojie said that the sale of marijuana products remains illegal despite the legalisation of its private use and cultivation.
