One of Port Elizabeth’s most wanted criminals will appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 2. The suspect was allegedly involved in three cases of murder and one house robbery perpetrated in the Kwadesi and Motherwell areas in September 2020.

A joint operation between Crime Intelligence and the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation units led to the arrest of the suspect on Thursday, October 29, according to a statement released by the Eastern Cape South African Police Service (SAPS).

The first incident took place on Friday, September 4 at 5pm. A 39-year-old man was standing in the driveway of his friend’s house in Mhlokotshane Street when four men pulled up in a black VW Polo and robbed them at gunpoint.

They took the man’s BMW keys, two cellphones, some cash and his 9mm pistol. The suspects also took his friend’s pistol. A 27-year-old man was arrested, appeared in court and was subsequently released.

The second incident occurred on September 22 at approximately 5pm. The police were called to a murder scene in Mzwandile Street in the Joe Slovo informal settlement. They discovered the dead body of Maguda Fezani lying beside his Toyota Avanza vehicle. He had been shot multiple times. A case of murder was opened for investigation and no arrests were made.

The third incident took place at 8.20pm on Thursday, September 24 in the Nyamazane Area of Joe Slovo. Thembela Puzi (31) was shot and killed. Puzi was allegedly being chased by unknown men. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A case of murder was opened.

On Monday, September 28 at 9.45pm, Sinethemba Nyadini’s body was found lying in Ngwenkala Street in Motherwell. Nyandini, too, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and a murder case was under investigation.

The suspect was eventually arrested on Thursday, October 29, about a month after his September crime spree.

The Provincial OCI and Crime Intelligence units followed up on leads about the suspect — he was allegedly in a white VW Polo near the New Law courts in Port Elizabeth.

The police tracked him down at this location and when the suspect spotted them, he took off. A car chase ensued and the vehicle was eventually halted in Gratten Street in New Brighton. The suspect was arrested.

He is expected to face three charges of murder in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 2 and he is yet to appear on the armed robbery case.
