The City’s Electricity Generation and Distribution Department has announced crucial infrastructure upgrades that will impact the electricity supply in Observatory, Salt River and parts of Woodstock on Friday, 24 January.
The work, scheduled to take place overnight, may also be rescheduled to 7 February, depending on weather conditions.
Power outage details and timing
The electricity disruption will occur from 8pm on Friday, 24 January, until 8am on Saturday, 25 January.
However, due to the potential for adverse weather, these dates could change, with the alternative planned date being Friday, 7 February, from 8pm to 8am the following Saturday.
Residents within the affected areas – Observatory, Salt River and parts of Woodstock – will experience a total power outage during the scheduled work.
The City has advised that while the restoration of power is estimated to occur within the specified window, unforeseen issues or complex work may cause delays.
Important information for residents
Residents are encouraged to prepare for the outage by switching off appliances and electronic devices as a precaution. This will help protect against any potential damage caused by power surges when the supply is restored. It’s also advised that all electrical installations should be treated as live during the outage.
Although the work will affect the specified areas, there have been reports suggesting that other parts of the city may experience outages as well. The City reassures residents that this is not the case, and the outages will only impact the outlined locations.
