The City of Cape Town (COCT) says the power has been restored in Woodstock, D6 and East of the CBD after parts of Cape Town have been left without electricity as a result of a fault involving at least one high voltage line. The COCT took to Twitter to announce a “technical fault on the grid”:
“Electricity notice: Due to a technical fault on the grid, Area 7 has lost its power supply. City teams are hard at work fixing the unplanned fault. Unfortunately, it is not clear at this stage when power will be restored,” the tweet read.

The outage stretches from the Atlantic Seaboard to parts of Woodstock and surrounds.
Cape Town’s mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis responded to the outage by saying: “Dozens of queries repower outage in a large section of CBD, Woodstock, Seaboard etc. At least one (possibly more) high voltage line is down across the N1. @CityofCT fire and electricity teams are on-site working to put out fires and get to repairing the cable and restoring power.”

City of Cape Town teams have also been working through the night to restore power to the affected areas.
“The current situation is that it is the Eskom main feeder line that supplies the City of Cape Town is down. While repair work is underway the city department is also looking at all additional emergency options that can be used,” said ward 54 councillor Nicola Jowell in an update on her Facebook page.
However, Hill-Lewis, confirmed earlier on Tuesday, December 21 that the areas of Woodstock and the eastern CBD should have power back in the next hour or two with testing having just concluded. According to Hill-Lewis, the mainline which feeds the Tafelbaai substation will take a bit longer.
Update on power outage: Woodstock and the eastern CBD should be back up in an hour or two. Testing has just finished. The other main line, feeding the Tafelbaai substation and the larger areas of outage, will take longer to fix. Teams are working flat out to bring it back up.

Hill-Lewis further mentioned that teams are continuing to work on cable repairs in order to restore other parts of CBD and the Seaboard.

I would like to thank the teams that have worked and continue to work tirelessly to get our electricity back online. Parts of Area 7 including Woodstock and Gardens are back online. Thank you to the residents for their patience as we continue to work to resolve this issue. pic.twitter.com/RDwZIi3tKQ
