Preparations for the Hermanus Whale Festival have begun today and road closures have been put in place, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The Hermanus Whale Festival is the only eco-marine festival in the world, offering a unique experience for visitors.
As southern right whales make their annual migration to the coast of Hermanus, visitors stand a chance to get up close and personal with them while learning about marine conservation efforts, shopping for handmade goods at the local market and indulging in delicious foods.

This year is the 33rd edition, drawing an estimated 75 000 to 130 000 visitors each year.
The Overstrand Municipality issued a notice on road closures in preparation for the Hermanus Whale Festival.
These Include:
- Friday, 27 September: Market Street and Marine Drive from Harbour Road circle to the Whale Tail will be closed for the weekend from 6am to 6pm to facilitate the setup of tents.
Parking will be available at the Hermanus Waterfront on the Marine Hotel side, on Marine Drive near the Windsor Hotel, and at the United Church below Hoy’s Koppie.
The parking areas at Gearing’s Point and the Red Stalls (FNB and Whale Museum) at the Old Harbour will be closed on Sunday, 22 September, and Monday, 23 September.
No parking is permitted in these areas until after the festival.
