In a dramatic move by the British monarchy, Prince Andrew has officially lost all royal titles, King Charles confirmed in a statement on Friday.
From now on, he will be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
The announcement also ordered Andrew to surrender the lease on the Royal Lodge, his long-time residence, requiring him to move to private accommodation.
Reports suggest he will relocate to a property on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, funded privately by the King. Sarah Ferguson, his ex-wife, will also vacate the Royal Lodge and manage her own living arrangements.
The decision follows the release of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir, Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice, in which she alleged that Andrew sexually abused her on three occasions when she was 17.
Giuffre claimed these encounters were orchestrated by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Giuffre tragically died by suicide in April 2025.
Andrew has repeatedly denied all allegations and earlier this month voluntarily gave up some of his other royal titles, saying that the accusations had become a distraction for the Royal Family. In his statement, he maintained: ‘As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.’

King Charles’ statement emphasised that the removal of Andrew’s titles is necessary, ‘notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.’
The statement concluded with a pointed message of support for survivors: ‘Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.’
Giuffre’s family welcomed the decision as a vindication. Her brother, Sky Roberts, and sister-in-law, Amanda Roberts, told PEOPLE magazine: ‘Today, an ordinary American girl from an ordinary American family brought down a British prince with her truth and extraordinary courage… Today, she declares victory.’
Andrew’s daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, will retain their titles, as they are direct descendants of the Sovereign. The reshuffle marks one of the most significant personal and public blows to the former Duke of York, ending his decades-long royal privileges in the wake of the Giuffre allegations.
