In his statement, Prince Andrew expressed that the mounting allegations and media scrutiny concerning his associations with Epstein were detracting from the royal family’s duties.
‘In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family,’ he asserted.
The prince, who has previously stepped back from royal duties and public life, said, ‘I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first,’
The Duke of York’s relinquishment of his title is significant. The title was bestowed upon him by his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and had not only royal prestige but also public association that Andrew will now distance himself from.

In recent weeks, new details have surfaced, including an email from 2011 revealing Andrew’s alarming sentiments towards Epstein, suggesting a complicity that many have found troubling.
‘It would seem we are in this together,’ he reportedly wrote, which raises further questions about his judgement and associations during and after his friendship with Epstein, as per report by BBC News.
In addition to relinquishing his title, Prince Andrew has chosen to step away from membership with the Order of the Garter, Britain’s oldest chivalric order, which adds to his growing list of lost royal duties.
