As part of Earthshot Week 2024 in November, where the awards ceremony will take place in Cape Town on 6 November, the Earthshot team has stated that only Prince William will attend the ceremony, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis’s spokesperson previously said that both Prince William and Princess Catherine were scheduled to attend the event.

Hill-Lewis stated that the Mother City looks forward to welcoming the Prince.
‘We are proud to be associated with this global event, as a leading City for environmental protection and innovation on the African continent,’ said Hill-Lewis.
This marks the first time that the annual Earthshot prize-giving ceremony will be held in South Africa.
The Earthshot Prize was launched in 2020 by Prince William to search for ‘innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges’, as reported by SmileFM.
Earthshot Week 2024 will span five days of ‘landmark events’ and will bring groundbreaking environmental solutions into the spotlight.
The event also plans to bring world-leading innovators, investors and philanthropists together, with the aim to ‘drive forward the restoration and protection of the planet’.
Fifteen finalists have been announced, with five winners standing a chance to be awarded £1 million to ‘scale their solutions’.
The finalists hail from all over the world, including Kenya, Ghana, the UK, the USA, Kazakhstan, Ecuador, Nepal, Australia, France, Costa Rica and Indonesia.
Categories in which these finalists have ‘proposed Earth friendly solutions’ range from fixing the climate, restoring oceans, cleaning the air to building a waste-free world.
The prize-giving ceremony will be followed by Earthshot+, a day of thought-provoking conversations aimed at multiplying the impact of The Earthshot Prize Winners and Finalists.
Princess Catherine won’t be visiting the Mother City, as after completing her chemo-therapy in September, she announced that she will be focused on staying ‘cancer free’ in a very personal video message released by Kensington Palace.
She had been out of the public eye for the majority of the year but has participated in select meetings and events, since she completed her treatment.
