The South Africa cricket team have stormed through Group D in the T20 World Cup, securing three wins from three matches to book their spot in the Super Eight stage in India and Sri Lanka, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Captain Aiden Markram’s side have already beaten Canada, Afghanistan and New Zealand, and have one pool match remaining against the United Arab Emirates in Delhi on Wednesday, with the first ball scheduled for 7.30am South African time. The Proteas have played all their games in Ahmedabad so far.
Afghanistan’s recent victory over the UAE on Monday confirmed South Africa’s passage to the Super Eight stage, where they are slated to join pre-seeded teams India, Australia, and West Indies, provided all advance. India and the West Indies have already secured qualification, while Australia faces pressure after a surprise defeat to Zimbabwe last week, though they still have two pool games remaining against Sri Lanka in Balagolla and Oman.
The other Super Eight group will likely include England, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, though the USA still have hopes of overtaking Pakistan. England also face a tense run of fixtures to secure their spot.
The final matches of the pool stage conclude on Friday, with the Super Eight stage set to kick off on Saturday.
