A crash on the R27 near Silwerstroom on 19 January 2026 left one person dead, one critically injured and two others with minor injuries, reports Cape {town} Etc. Emergency services found one vehicle split in two at the scene and began treatment immediately.

According to ArriveAlive paramedics stabilised the critically injured patient before transporting them to a nearby hospital.
Two patients with minor injuries received on-site care and were discharged. Police closed a section of the R27 while investigators collected evidence and took witness statements.

A social media post from @LimaCharlie1 on X reshared by @Arrivealive described the scene as a ‘fatal collision on the R27, Silwerstroom’ and shared images.
Inspector Johan van der Merwe of the provincial traffic unit said officers are examining vehicle positions and speed as part of the probe. He asked drivers to avoid the area while teams worked. Police have not released the names of those involved pending family notification.
Investigations remain ongoing.
