Western Cape police apprehended a 44-year-old man on Saturday after discovering drugs with an estimated street value exceeding R4 million in his vehicle, Cape {town} Etc reports.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie reported that officers stopped a suspicious car travelling along Robert Sobukwe Road between Belhar and Ravensmead.
‘The suspicious vehicle was traveling on Robert Sobukwe Road. The police gave chase and pulled the car off the road. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the members discovered bags in bubble wrap and a sealed box, which the driver could not account for,’ Pojie said.
A thorough search revealed over 1000 bags of mandrax tablets and 30 bags of uncut cocaine hidden within the car.
The suspect and the vehicle were taken to Ravensmead police station, where he was charged with drug dealing and detained for further investigation.
The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the trafficking of illegal substances in the region. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspect has links to broader drug networks operating in the Western Cape.
Authorities have called on the public to report any suspicious activity, emphasising that community involvement is essential to the fight against drug-related crime.
