Police sources have confirmed the death of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes who was fatally shot in Florida Road on Friday evening, 10 February 2023.
A second person, said to be the artist’s bodyguard was wounded while another, believed to be a close friend of AKA, was also killed.

According to IOL, stunned patrons at a nearby restaurant said that AKA was standing outside Wish when he was gunned down.

Meanwhile, Garrith Jamieson, a spokesperson for ALS Paramedics told media that Florida Road had been closed after the shooting incident where two people have been confirmed deceased
He confirmed that the famous rapper was among the deceased.
While the identity of the second person shot dead is unknown at this stage, but he is understood to be a close friend of AKA.
AKA was due to perform at a Durban night club, YUGO, where he was expected to perform as part of his birthday celebrations according to social media posts.
Forbes’ fiancé Anele Tembe died after she fell from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town. She was in the city to attend an event with the musician in April 2021.
Meanwhile, Forbes’ parents expressed their “extreme sadness” at the loss of their son.
“Our son was loved and he gave love in return. In this time of grief, we appeal for your compassion, space and time to congregate as a family to decide on the upcoming days,” they said in a statement sent to News24.
“To many, he was AKA, SUPERMEGA, BHOVA and many other names,” they said. But to them, he was Kiernan Jarryd Forbes – a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, and most importantly, a father to his daughter Kairo.
“We thank you for the love and support we have received thus far and ask you to continue to keep us in your prayers and uplifted in the Lord,” they added.
