Cape Town’s city centre will once again come alive with hope and solidarity as the 11th Recovery Walk Cape Town returns on Saturday, 18 October 2025, from 10am to 1pm at the Central Methodist Mission on Greenmarket Square, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The annual event, which celebrates recovery from addiction and mental illness, offers a safe and inclusive space for people in recovery, their families, friends, and supporters to unite, share stories and inspire others.
This year’s walk will also see the presentation of a Memorandum to the Western Cape Government and the City of Cape Town, calling for recovery to be more visible, celebrated and supported throughout the province. The full memorandum can be viewed here.
The Recovery Walk is more than just a symbolic journey through Cape Town’s streets; it’s a movement that challenges stigma and promotes understanding. Alongside the walk, attendees can look forward to an engaging line-up of guest speakers, open mic sessions, sports and creative workshops. The event is inclusive, sober and free to attend, encouraging participation from all members of the community.

Traditionally held in September, during the global recovery month, and sometimes in October, recognised as Mental Health Month, the walk serves as a platform to highlight recovery in all its forms. It connects individuals to networks, support systems and resources that promote long-term healing and well-being.
Organisers say the walk celebrates the diversity of recovery pathways and emphasises that recovery is possible for anyone. ‘Whether you are in recovery yourself, a family member, a friend, someone who works in the field or simply a compassionate supporter, your presence matters,‘ the organisers said. ‘Walking together symbolises unity in the journey towards healing.’
The Recovery Walk Cape Town is a not-for-profit organisation (NPO 193-592), powered entirely by volunteers. Its continued impact depends on public generosity. Supporters can make a donation through their official BackaBuddy campaign here.
