The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a significant safety recall affecting the widely popular Renault Kwid, a budget-friendly choice among South African drivers, reports Cape {town} Etc.
This recall comes in the wake of an essential notification from the Motus Vehicles Distributor, highlighting a potential safety issue linked to the vehicles’ performance systems.
The recall applies to 1,393 Renault Kwid vehicles that were distributed and sold across the nation from 20 January 2026 onward.
According to the NCC’s statement, the recall pertains specifically to the five-seater passenger models of the Renault Kwid. A critical concern that has been identified is the illumination of a dashboard warning light due to the vehicle’s sensitivity in velocity calculation.
Such an indicator, if left unaddressed, may hinder the overall system performance of the vehicle, potentially jeopardising passenger safety.
In response to the situation, Motus Vehicles Distributor has assured the public that no affected vehicles are currently in consumers’ hands.
