Giovanni’s Deliworld, a staple institution in Cape Town’s culinary scene, has been sold to the Sole family, renowned owners of the Alphen Constantia Farm Stall and Cape Quarter Spar, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The announcement was made via a social media post, underlining that despite a new ownership, the deli will still have the same foundations.
‘We are excited to announce that Giovanni’s Deliworld, a beloved and long-established institution in the Mother City, has been sold by the Esposito family to the Sole family,’ said the post.
‘The Sole family, owners of the Alphen Constantia Farm Stall and Cape Quarter Spar, along with the much loved Giovanni’s staff team, are honored to continue the proud tradition of serving our community with the same passion and dedication that Giovanni’s has always been famous for.’
Giovanni’s Deliworld opened on 1 June 1989 in Green Point, founded by 25-year-old Giovanni Esposito as a small, welcoming deli offering fresh meals, local breads, cheeses, and charcuterie.
Two years later, Giovanni’s expanded to include a coffee bar, adding European flair and becoming the perfect spot for a morning espresso, croissant, and conversation.
Giovanni’s success was built on the unwavering support of his family.
He opened the deli with his wife Sharon, brother Nic, and mother Rosa, who helped in the kitchen.
Nic, ten years younger, began working weekends and holidays, eventually joining full-time at 18, and the brothers have run the deli together ever since.
According to the social media post, Gabi Esposito, daughter of Giovanni, will be continuing as an integral part of the business as a chef & food specialist.
Additionally, Giovanni and Nicolas Esposito will continue to provide their expertise to the business in the years ahead.
