The Cape Argus reports, EMS spokesperson Simoney Regter said that the patient was extracted by rescue teams and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care, while a second individual was assessed and treated on scene.

A rescue mission is underway on Chapman’s Peak Drive after a car plunged about 100 metres off the Noordhoek side of the scenic route on Sunday, leaving one person trapped inside the vehicle.

The Chapman’s Peak Drive incident follows an earlier accident reported on the same stretch of road, but authorities have confirmed this is a separate and more serious emergency. The vehicle is believed to have veered off the roadway before crashing onto rocks below, prompting a large-scale response from emergency services.

Social media user Gina posted on X: ‘A rescue mission is currently underway to free one person trapped in a car that drove off the Noordhoek side of Chapman’s Peak Drive, and plunged about 100 metres onto the rocks in Cape Town on Sunday.’

The Suburban Control Centre also issued an alert confirming the incident. ‘A motorist lost control of a vehicle on Chapman’s Peak, Noordhoek side, resulting in the motor vehicle veering off the roadway,’ the centre said in a statement.

Rescue teams are working in difficult conditions due to the steep cliff face and unstable terrain. The person’s condition has not yet been confirmed.

Chapman’s Peak Drive remains closed while the rescue operation continues. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and make use of alternative routes. Officials have urged the public to remain patient and allow emergency services to work without interference.

An investigation into the cause of the Chapman’s Peak Drive incident is expected to follow once the scene is secured and the rescue concluded.
