On Monday, 7 March, the Animal Welfare Society of SA took a couple of decisions that will forever change the fate and fortune of a pair of severely malnourished and neglected two-year-old Pitbull brothers named Jakes and Hennessy.

The Animal Welfare Society of SA would like to thank each and every person who contributed towards Jakes and Hennessy’s care bill that now runs into thousands of rand.
The inseparable two-year-old Pitbull brothers are slowly adapting to their new environment and responding well to treatment but have a long way to go before they’re out of the proverbial woods.
Jakes the stronger of the pair appears to have taken on a somewhat Royal demeanour whilst Hennessey still appears sad and depressed – but who could blame him given the degree of deprivation that they have had to endure over the past couple of years.
They are both wolfing down their food (which is always a very good sign) too fast so to avoid any problems we have changed their rations to four square meals a day.
They both got to spend some time in one of the Animal Welfare Society of SA’s lawned exercise runs earlier today and watching them tip-toe across the grass like it was a luxurious carpet whilst sniffing the air and greeting the other dogs who share their space was precious.
“Jakes and Hennessy cannot speak for themselves but if they could they would join us in paying tribute to everyone who has enabled us to save them. Thank You,” says the Animal Welfare Society of SA.
