The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has advised that various parts of the Mother City will experience water supply disruptions this week as the team conducts planned work on its water supply infrastructure, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The following areas will be affected:
Maintenance work: pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Zwaanswyk, Muizenberg, Plumstead, Constantia and Wynberg
- Monday, 10 November, from 8am to 8am on Sunday, 16 November (Wynberg No. 2 Reservoir)
- Monday, 17 November, from 8am to 8am on Saturday, 22 November (Wynberg No. 1 Reservoir)
The directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to and from the Wynberg Reservoirs for cleaning. Consumers in these areas are advised to reduce their consumption during these respective periods
Parow, Bellville, Welgemoed and Plattekloof
- Monday, 10 November, from 8am to 8am on Thursday, 13 November
The water supply to and from the Tygerberg Reservoir to enable the maintenance team to safely do repairs to the inlet of the reservoir. Consumers in these areas are advised to reduce their consumption during this time.
Manenberg North
- Tuesday, 11 November, from 10am until 1pm
A City-appointed contractor will be conducting field investigations to verify the operation of the existing water supply cones in the potable water network in the following areas:
- Manenberg
- Bishop Lavis
- Ravensmead West (Beaconvale, Parow Valley and Florida)
- Elsies River
- Ruyterwacht
- Paarden Eiland
The project is expected to run for approximately 11 months. The contractor will be conducting field investigations in the area bounded by Klipfontein Road, Silverstream Road, Duinefontein Road and the Railway Line in Manenberg North on Tuesday.
The process involves confirming the status of divisional valves in the water supply network and may result in brief intermittent flow disruptions.
Vredekloof East – Brackenfell
- Tuesday, 11 November, from 9am to 6pm
The water supply in Welgeleë Rod, Welkom Road, George Road and surrounds will be temporarily shut off to enable the maintenance team to safely upgrade a section of the water supply main to the area.
As there will be no water during this period, a water tanker will be made available to provide water where required.
Golden Acre, Land En Zeezicht, Nature Valley and Morningside in Bizweni – Somerset West
- Wednesday, 12 November, from 10am to 6pm
The water supply to these areas, and possibly the immediate surrounds, will be temporarily shut off to enable the installation of an additional bulk water meter on the water supply main to these areas. Residents will experience no water during this time.
Part of Woodstock
- Wednesday, 12 November, from 9am to 6pm
The water supply from Hyde Street to Sir Lowry Road (between Searle Street and Russel Street including Chapel Street, Gray Street, St Phillips Street, Frances Street, Pontac Street, Nelson Street and possibly immediate surrounds) will be temporarily shut off during this period.
A bypass connection will be installed to accommodate the upgrade of the roadways in the area.
Sun Valley
- Thursday, 13 November, from 9:30am to 4pm
A Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) on the water supply main to Sun Valley will be commissioned during this time. The work involves doing a series of simulation exercises that will enable the maintenance team to assess the optimal setting for the PRV.
Residents are advised of pressure fluctuations during this time, so it is recommended that enough water be stored in clean sealed containers where and if required.

Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments
- Tuesday, 11 November, from 9am to 5pm: Retreat and Steenberg
- Wednesday, 12 November, from 10am to 4pm: Kraaifontein, Peerless Park and Eikendal
- Thursday, 13 November, from 9:30am to 4pm: Paarden Eiland
In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure, while some may have no water during the testing period. Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict which exact areas or streets will experience disruptions.
The City added that additional zone management investigations will be carried out to ensure that existing infrastructure is operating effectively. Residents may experience pressure fluctuations during this time.
What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions
The City says careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
However, maintenance work can sometimes be more complex than anticipated, resulting in longer-than-expected periods of water supply disruptions.
Additionally, all sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
The City advises that for a short period after the water supply is restored, the water may be discoloured or milky in appearance due to the presence of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand, the water will become clear in colour again.
How to prepare
Residents are encouraged to keep taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage, as well as store enough water in clean, sealed containers to last during this period.
