Members of the public have been urged not to discard or donate their old school uniforms after Claremont SAPS arrested a suspect in connection with a string of cellphone thefts at local schools.

While confirmation from the police had not been received at the time of publication, it is believed the suspect was identified on CCTV, wearing different uniforms on each occasion to blend in with the learners from the various schools he was targeting.
“Residents are asked not to dump/discard school uniforms in bins, nor donate it to the homeless – rather return it via the school’s formal second hand clothing channels,” read a post on a Facebook community group.
“In keeping with the repeated advice not to leave anything in motor vehicles parked in the street, please remember this extends to school bags and sports kit as well.”
