Residents and beachgoers are being urged to steer clear of the water at Melkbosstrand beach after a series of alarming seal attacks were reported on Friday evening, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Local authorities, prompted by confirmed incidents involving multiple injuries, have taken swift action to ensure public safety.
According to information provided by local City of Cape Town Councillor Paul Swart, the beach has been officially closed until further notice.
Lifeguards and signage are in place to inform the public about the dangers, and everyone is advised to heed these warnings as conditions may change.
Disturbing footage circulated on social media, shared by Aspoestertjie Adventures, captured a chaotic scene where a man was seen shouting frantically for others to exit the water following the attacks.
The call for caution became crucial after several individuals sustained injuries due to their close encounters with the marine mammals.
In light of these events, health authorities have raised concerns about potential rabies risks in the coastal area.
Individuals who may have come into contact with the attacking seal are strongly urged to seek medical evaluation, either consulting with their local doctor or visiting a hospital for proper assessment.
This is a developing story.
