The award-winning restaurant at Waterkloof Wine Estate in Stellenbosch has been forced to close down.

In a statement Head Ghef, Gregory Czarnecki expressed his deep sadness at the closure and that the last lunch would be served on November 22.

“Despite all our best efforts to keep the restaurant afloat, our dream alive, and to pursue our passion in these strange and difficult times, it has become impossible for us to follow our business model,” said Czarnecki.

“When I started the journey at Waterkloof 11 years ago, I could not have ever conceived that it would end this way. It is, unfortunately, a battle that we can no longer keep fighting and so, we have decided to hang up our aprons.”

Waterkloof was named Eat Out’s Restaurant of the Year in 2018. Czarnecki has also been named Chef of the Year in 2016. In addition, the location and creative architecture complemented the inventive dishes served at the innovative restaurant.

“I wish to sincerely thank everybody who has been supportive of us through these wonderful years. You were the reason we kept pushing the boundaries and enjoyed sharing what we loved most,” said Czarnecki.
