In a statement released by the retailer in mid-September, routine testing detected contamination in three batches of 300g and 125g tubs of Deli hummus. The impacted batches have been withdrawn from store shelves, and customers are encouraged to return purchased products for a full refund.
‘The safety of our consumers is our number one priority,’ said a Checkers representative. ‘We apologise for any delay, and we assure customers that we take food safety very seriously.’

The NCC says it is now awaiting Shoprite Checkers’ final report.
The Commission is also conducting an independent investigation into the recalled products based on ‘identified operational concerns related to food safety.’
The NCC has encouraged consumers to immediately stop using the items and return them to the provider for a full refund, with or without evidence of purchase.
It further stated that because the NCC was unable to determine the degree of product distribution at this time, suppliers are advised not to distribute these items until the investigation is completed.
